Why I love cold nights.

Chunkin' Pumpkins.

We spent last Sunday hours away from home on Wheatley Farms in Bridgeville, DE watching pumpking get hurled through the sky.

Why?

To experience Punkin' Chunkin'.

I have only ever seen the chunkin' festivities on TV.. and always thought it looked like fun. We had the time to go this year. AND the mythbusters (Kari, Tory and Grant) were hosting. My inner nerdyness kicked in, and I had to be there.

The weather was nice. And even though We missed a bunch of the chunkin' due to an accident one of the 4-wheelers had, It was really fun. The only "chunking we saw wasn't really even chunking, It was the cannon instead. They were pretty impressive though If I may say.



To my happiness, in addition to the cannons.. I got to see Tory from Mythbusers! See my creepin skillz? Impressive. If you get a chance to go, you should go. It was a fun time. I'm sure if you could stick around for the whole day it would be worth it. Sadly we couldnt stay. Had to get hone to the puppies. But what we did get to see was a pretty good time.

 

Loving Los Angeles

Oh how I love California. And more than that. How I Love LA. I don't know what it is about that town. But it just gets me all giddy. We found some cheap airfare and used Airbnb for our sleeping accommodations, and it was settled. LA for the 2nd anniversary trip.

First things first. We found Intellegencia in Silverlake, the best coffee bar, with the best coffee I have ever, EVER had. At this very same establishment we were lucky enough to see Adam Scott (Parks & Rec, Party Down) and (ohmygosh) Ryan Gosling. They're Silverlakers, and I must say it was rather interesting to see celebs mingling with everyday peeps without causing a ruckus. (Especially Ryan Gosling. Yum.)

We traveled along Mullholland Drive.. Got to see some baller houses. And the LA skyline.

Griffith Observatory right in our town. It was nice.

*Side note about Los Angeles AWESOMENESS. Dogs are EVERYWHERE. I have a new dream of going back out to make a book about the dogs of Los Angeles. Too Cute.

I think one of the BEST parts of the trip was out trip to see the Stahl House. Being the Mid century nerds we are, getting to take a tour of this classic house was amazing.

Yay Art!

After that the trip sped up. We Stopped at this cute Japanese restaurant called Royal-T for lunch on our way to Venice. Joe actually let me get a picture of him..




The store there is so fun. It's like they made it for me.

 

Oddly enough, even though we were shacked up in Venice for the last few days. We ended up doing more trips back to hollywood/silverlake area. It was just so much more like-able. I wasn't such a fan of Venice. it was pretty creepy actually.

As for our anniversary night. It was pretty fun.

we saw DJ Shadow at Amoeba music in Hollywood.

My inner Liz Lemmon then came out and decided instead of one lavish dinner, we should have a dinner AND a dessert...from separate places.




 I told you I had an inner Liz Lemmon.


It's as good as it looks.

Fall festivities of fun!

Lucky for us it was so ridiculously hot outside we decided it was PERFECT weather for a trip to the pumpkin patch to pick pumpkins.

 

I'm used to taking this trip with jeans... Boots....Sweaters...Scarves...

Not this time. It was a serious 80 degrees.. with sun beating down. It was rough.

Yeah there were huge pumpkins just about the size of my torso... But these 'lil ones were too perfect to pass up.

 

Even though it was a ZILLION degrees, and in that picture I was practically dying.

 

But it was a good day.

 

Sailing ... Well crusing on the atlantic ocean.

I was extremely not looking foward to cruise day. The thought of nothing being around for miles.. Creeeppy.

Helloooooooo?

 

It was nothing like that at all. Despite the fact there was nothing to do for the middle aged kids like me. It was an okay time.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

It was a pretty good time for being a family trip. I did enjoy myself. :)

 

Hurricanes and saving lives!

During the week of "Le Hurricane" I was prepping myself for the devistation that never came.

I had made a promise to Joe as well to clean out the flower bed of all the weeds before we left. Luckily when I got home Saturday from the bakery it was only mildly raining and I wanted to keep my promise to clean up.

I was pulling weeds and being bored, when I saw something dart around the weeds.

I then found this little guy.

I have a knack for finding bunnies. I found this little guy, then 2 of his/her friends hopping around as well. I then found their home. a little hole that had filled with water, and at the rate it was raining, it would have filled up and they would die!

I put them in a box on the porch with a sweater to keep them warm. But amazingly they managed to escape. The jumped OUT of the box, onto the floor (somehow didnt break their little necks) and found a nice warm spot - Under the keggrator.

Joe and I managed to get them out, and we then found a safer house for them to enjoy.

the dogs we're in love. Leela wanted nothing more than to jump into the cage and be the mommy.

In the end. the dog sitter let them go, and they did okay. I saved the day. :)

 

I love me some Peanut Butter cookies.

I would have to say of all the goodies I bake. Cookies are not my specialty. I leave those to my sister-in-law. She is a cookie beast. The only cookie I know I can make (and make well) are the good old peanut butter cookies.

Oh hai little ingredients soon to be cookies.

Every now and again I get the hankerin' for some cookies, I also believe that there is no reason to go to a store for them, when I can do it myself.

Extreme Weather!!

What a week.

Relaxing in my office this afternoon, enjoying the day. Not too many peeps in the office, and that usually means I get lots of work done. But not today. Not after..

 

That's right!!! I was hanging out, and the next thing I knew the whole office was shaking. The metal walls that enclose us were shaking like leaves in a tornado. It sounded like the roof was getting ripped off. I asked the guy next to me if we should get under the desks.. (apparently I'm the only person on the east coast who knows about that rule) But before we could react, it was over....

My shaking stopped about 10 minutes later. The rest of the day. Ruined. How can you go back to concentrating when the world could violently shake again any second?!

 

Aside from the terror that was Earthquake day 2011.. I also had another surprise waiting for me. My coworker enlightened me to...

 

 

Seriously weather?

Can you just leave this week alone? I have to board a boat in merely 5 days, and you're taunting me with extreme waves, rain and windy situations. I don't have the heart for this.

Hopefully my captain (who I may have to have a talk with before we take off) is a good driver, sailor, whatever... And my trip won't look like a bad episode of Deadliest Catch.

Philly's Finest Bar(Tender)

Scotch. Whiskey. Bourbon.

These are things I don't typically like to drink. During some odd phase in his life, Joe has become a huge fan of these old man drinks. And has a bottle collection of a champ.

Last year for his 30th birthday we went into Philly for a day of fun. I had a gift certificate for any Garces restaurant of my choosing, and we decided upon Village Whiskey. A little bar on the corner of 20th & Sansom St. We settled in and had some drinks. This was the beginning of our obsession with this bar.

 

I wouldn't say so much the bar. But we have always had the pleasure of going to see Steve. He is a master bartender. A mixologist if you will. Most people think these folk are annoyingly called that. But they just wouldn't get it until you see the work they do.

Raw egg whites?

I'm sure if you were to head out to your local bar and say..
"Good day bar keep! May I have a delicious whiskey sour please?"

You would see that Mrs. T sour mix pop into sight, along with some whiskey, mix it up in a glass, and off you go.

Not here.

It's a 5 minute process.

But in the end..

Yes Please..

No sour mix here. Just some egg, whiskey, fresh juice, homemade simple syrup, bitters of sorts, and a couple of very strategically placed fruits.

It's always a good time when we go. Food and fun is something that never lets us down.

 

Hot AND Tasty.

Sadly. Steven is moving on to bigger and better bars. And this was the last time we will get to see him at Village Whiskey. But If you ever get a chance stop by. It's worth it.
